Regular maintenance is important in order to keep your roller skates in good condition for years to come, so it’s important to know the parts of your skates. One of the most important parts of the skate is also the least flashy- the plate!
What (and where) are the skate plates?
The plates on roller skates are located on the bottom of the skate, under the skate boot. Basically, they allow you to turn a boot into a roller skate. The narrow plate fastens to the sole of the boot, and the trucks and wheels attach to that.
The way the plate is mounted and the type of material it is made out of can make a big difference when it comes to the performance of your skate. Common materials for roller skate plates are nylon and aluminum.
Skate plates are available in a variety of price points to fit your budget and skating needs, from top-of-the-line Snyder Advantage aluminum plates to affordable Powerdyne Thrust nylon plates. We also carry plates for speed skating, jam skating, roller derby, rink skating, artistic skating, and more.
